The Fashionable Philanthropist /Humanitarian..

Winnie Ojanga is not only a fabulously creative and talented award winning designer. She is positive minded,Humanitarian,Kind, humble, focused, hard working,self-motivated,friendly and a mentor. She is very passionate about giving back to her community. From Small and humble beginnings she is slowly and steadily creating a name and niche for herself in the fashion and beauty industry Internationally. The Swiss-based Kenyan award-winning fashion designer is a strong believer that nothing comes easily in life without hard work, persistence, discipline, consistency and faith in God. She is also the founder and president of The Ukarimu project for Africa. The project was founded to help bright orphaned and deprived school going children in Kenya. Ukarimu is a Swahili word that means generosity, kindness, charity, giving from the bottom of your heart. The Ukarimu  School feeding project aims to feed deprived and orphaned school going children in Kenya. A warm nutritious meal is provided in participating schools 2 times a week. This enables the children to gain basic education that would allow them to escape from poverty. The pilot project was succesfully conducted at Pedo primary school in Homa bay County (in Kenya) for 2 years. Over 600 children benefited. The Ukarimu project recently started a program to pay school fee to very bright orphans and deprived children in Homa Bay County in Kenya. This happened when designer Winnie Ojanga visited Pedo primary school in Homa Bay County (Kenya) during the normal weekly feeding and found out that the best pupil that year after K.C.P.E had gone back to repeat due to luck of school fee.
She was also was confronted with a story of a bright girl who dropped out of school one year long and was even willing to be a domestic worker to help her raise money to pay her school fee and many more devastating stories that disturbed and touched her heart. Winnie Ojanga decided to take action by starting the Ukarimu Education Fund to help solve this problems in her community (Kenya).

The Ukarimu school feeding project  for Orphaned and deprived school going children was started on  the 7th , July 2012 and has been running smoothly to date.

The Ukarimu education fund program for very bright orphanes was started on the 13 February 2013 and we have enroled some students  and paying their secondary school fees.

The project also started the Ukarimu school libraty/and books donation program. With the help of this books children now have book clubs where they can read the books in rotation. This has tremendiously improved their performance in english/litrature. The rate at which girls were missing classes due to lack of sanitary towels was also alarming. This affected their performence at school. Some of them were also dropping out of school because of early pregancies or even contracting HIV after giving sexual favours in order to get sanitary towels from older men.Ukarimu girl child sanitary towel and mentouring program  was launched and has been supporting and mentouring these girls.

  24. Good work I must say @ Winnie, Until the our children/youth are empowered to know that the future is where they are standing right now they will not think to do something about their present situation to make the positive changes. Societys have made our youth to believe that “our future leaders" is something future. Change is now in order for the leadership qualities to be nurtured. There is no tomorrow until you appreciate your today. Keep up the good work Ukarimu Project.(Moses kajwala)
